OLD graduate Step 1 experience --237





I am an old IMG (Graduated 2006) and full time working urologist.
Step 1 experience
Total study time 6 months (2-3 hrs/day)
Dedicated study time 2 weeks.
Resources used
UWorld single pass (made flash cards for review)
FA double pass but skipped reproductive part
BnB
Pathoma videos
DIT (some parts)
Paul bolin (basic sciences and medicine) youtube videos
UWSA1 247 taken a week before
UWSA 2 237 taken 2 days before
No NBME or other tests taken.
UWorld and FA are indispensable. In my opinion, BnB is the best video resource for step 1 (if you want to use only one video resource) which I found a little late during my study time. I got only last one month to go through them. Biostats is specially very good in BnB. I practiced every biostats and hardy Weinberg questions several time which paid off well. They are very easy points that should not be missed.
DIT is good in some parts but not as a whole. Pathoma is good but very lengthy to revise. Again if you must use single resource then only BnB is my choice. Multiple passes (2-3) through UW, FA and BnB can do wonders.
Real exam felt much more confusing and difficult than UW but that might be my personal feeling. In every block, I flagged 15-18 questions as an average to review.

Anis Al Kateb Step 2 CK: 261

The total duration of the preparation was around 12 months (with a full-time job) -Study materials: *Kaplan Q bank (once) overall performance 77% *UW step 2 CK (once). Overall performance 78%. Did not get time to do a second round. Only did the wrong questions in Peads, OBGYN and psychiatry. *UW biostatistics subject review *Uptodate; occasionally to clarify some concepts *Did only the new CMS forms in peads, OBGYN and psychiatry -Assessments: *UWSA1 = 276 (one week before the exam) *NBME8= 247 (4 days before the exam) *UWSA2= 254 (the day before the exam) *step1 score= 241 *Real deal= 261 -Exam day: *Very long day and mentally exhausting. MRCS PART A – EXPERIENCE

DURATION OF STUDY – 3.5-4 months (with work )  Pattern of study  Paper 1 ( Basic sciences )  Anatomy – Emrcs with NASA khan notes ( best part about these notes are he copied all the colourful pics from Snell’s anatomy along with emrcs theory ) . Make small pics for imagination of anatomical relationship .... A big chunk of questions are from anatomy , this needs to be done in a crystal clearway .. Physiology – raftry with emrcs  Pathology – raftry few topics and emrcs Pharma and micro – emrcs  I read raftry for physio complete twice , patho and micro once only  Biostatistics – emrcs  For basic sciences reading emrcs with its theory is more than enough with few references from text books to make the concepts clear  Fawzia sheets for paper one is very very very important , somehow in every session of this examination RCS is putting almost 50-60% paper from these sheets ...
